As a part of tutorial hours for first-year students, there were held online meetings with PR-11 and PR-12 on 10 and 15 December 2021. It was reported on ensuring the quality of higher education at the university and increasing students' activity in accordance with the principle of student centeredness.

Alona Nikolenko (PR-01 Philology student) under the guidance of Oksana Brovkina (senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology) took part in the II International Scientific-Theoretical Conference «The Current State of Development of World Science: Characteristics and Features».  It was held on December 10, 2021 in Lisbon (Portugal).

On December 7, masters of the Department of Germanic Philology met with Olena Rozhkova, an HR manager of the POLISAN LLC (Farbex). Olena was pleasantly satisfied with the quality of their training.

Anna Reshytko (a PhD student of the Department of Germanic Philology) successfully passed the competition and was selected as one of the best students for the BUP 8th «Interdisciplinary-Multicultural-International» internship, organized by the Center for PhD Students from the Baltic Region. The conference was held on November 24-28 in the town of Lodz, Poland. Young researchers from 12 European countries took part in it.

On November 25, Anhelina Lisun and Anastasiia Liubych (SumDU students), inspired by the online courses "English for the Workplace", "Interpreting for Refugees: Contexts, Practices and Ethics" on the FutureLearn portal, shared their experience with the first- and second-year Philology students. 

Daryna Shcherbak, a second-year student, participated in the conference “Philology Development: European Practice and National Perspective”. The event took place in Odessa.

The student prepared her report under supervision of Oksana Brovkina (the senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology). The young researcher told on peculiarities of the non-verbal component usage in the English fiction.

On November 30, the lecture on writing and indexing scientific papers was held at the Department of Germanic Philology by the Section of SSSP (Scientific Society of Students and Postgraduates) of the FPSC Faculty.

 

The audience learned how to select relevant scientific literature to produce the theoretical and practical research parts. The speaker represented free online libraries, where researchers can find scientific sources from the last five years. It was also revealed about potential of such scientometric databases as Scopus, Web of Science, Index Copernicus (registration, search for publications).

Hlafira Mazur and Alina Serdiuk (PR-91 Philology students) took part in the SES International Project (Senior Experten Service) in Sumy as translators from English and German.

The SES is a leading German organization and charity foundation. It voluntarily sends specialists from Germany to other countries. The foundation was created by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF). During the three-week participation in the project, the girls were able to work with Ernst Buehler (doctor) at Sumy Saint Panteleimon Clinic.

SumDU students think that distance learning is not a reason to abandon extracurricular activities. So, they honoured the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language participating in an All-Ukrainian Student Battle. The meeting was joined by a record number - 130 participants from 18 different educational institutions of Ukraine (from colleges to universities). SumDU philology students defended their alma mater worthily.

Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Sumy State University, initiated virtual exchanges with the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CAS) and College of Computer Studies (CCS), Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, in the Philippinean city of Nabua. The Collaborative online international learning (COIL) project includes a virtual mobility course on English Language: Communication Strategies (SumDU) and Purposive Communication (CSPC) for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Computer Science Program. The instructors are Head of Foreign Languages Department, DSc in Philology, Ass. Prof. Nataliia Tatsenko and Assoc. Prof. Filmor J. Murillo. One more virtual mobility course blends two courses, such as Basics of Speech Communication Theory (SumDU) taught by Iryna Ushchapovska, PhD in Philology, Senior Lecturer of Department of Germanic Philology, and Introduction to Society, Language and Culture (CSPC) taught by Dr. Marlon S. Pontillas. The Coordinators of the virtual exchange are Alla Krasulia, PhD in Education, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology, Associate Dean for International Relations, Associate Head of International Academic Collaboration Group, and Filmor J. Murillo, MDC Associate Professor, Director, Center for International Linkages and Affairs, Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges.
