On September 30, we celebrate International Translator's Day. This profession is of paramount significance in the world. Translating is not only about literally conveying the speech sense, as most people believe. Instead, it is about culture of languages, history, feelings.

Scholarships of the Head of Sumy Oblast State Administration are awarded every year for outstanding achievements in education, research activity and public work. This year, Oleksandra Pavliv (a 3rd-year student, the Department of Germanic Philology) and Hanna Zinchenko (a parallel study student) became scholarship recipients.

On 19 September 2022, the Department of Germanic Philology held a lecture on research project issues (course and diplom papers). Among participants, there were teachers, 4th-academic-year bachelors, masters.

The event was organized to enhance special preparation of linguists within the curriculum "Germanic Languages and Literatures (Including Translation), English as the First Language".

Olena Yemelianova (associate professor of the Department of Germanic Philology, PhD in Philology) was awarded a TESOL/TEFL certificate after completing a 120-hour English language course for teachers.

The new academic year start is a freshmen's tradition. But this year, the event took place in an unusual online format: on 14 September 2022. There were the first talks to lecturers and coursemates, the first grand meeting (but not at school anymore), the first awareness of yourself as a student in the virtual space. Despite all these circumstances, the meeting took place in a friendly and warm atmosphere. The Department of Germanic Philology congratulates freshmen on the beginning of a new and interesting stage in their lives!

Students of the Department of Germanic Philology presented Sumy State University and their native department with dignity at the All-Ukrainian Shakespeare Competition of Student Research and Creative Projects Named after Vitalii Keis.

The contest was held according to Order of the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science №747 as of 1 July 2021. It was aimed at intensifying Shakespearean studies in Ukraine, popularizing his legacy among students, identifying philologically gifted youth, stimulating scientific activity.

In summer, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology actively worked on the COURSERA educational platform, improving their knowledge and experience. The result of the work is certificates of the international standard.

Alla Krasulia (senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology) spoke at the EUPRIO-2022 conference. There, she represented Sumy State University as one of new members of the European Association of Communication Professionals in Higher Education (EUPRIO).

The conference was held on 28-31 August 2022 in Zurich (Switzerland) gathering more than 300 participants from various EU countries.

Diana Movchan (Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology) became an online participant of the XVII International Conference of the German Language Teachers ​​(IDT 2022), that took place in Vienna (15-22 August 2022), Austria.
