On 21-28 December 2022, the Department of Germanic Philology held the defense of Philology Master's theses for full-time and part-time students. Various amazing works were submitted to the committee.

The examination committee included: Anokhina Tetiana (head, DSc in Philology), Kobiakova Iryna (deputy head, professor), Shvachko Svitlana (DSc in Philology, professor), Shchyhlo Larysa (PhD in Philology), Chulanova Halyna (PhD in Philology). The Expert Council of Employers was represented by Hlushchenko Olha (chief of the SOTIK TOUR Travel Agency).

German life, education and routine – this is what first-year Philology students learned about at an online meeting. It was held by the Travel Office Club on 22 December 2022. The video conference was guided by Olena Nazarenko with the assistance of Iryna UshchapovskaOlena Yemelianova and Iryna Tkachenko. The invited guest was Yuliia Ishchenko (a third-year student).

Students of the Department of Germanic Philology had a great opportunity to hear about peculiarities of pharmacy translation and talk to Alina Shevchenko (a department graduate). Currently, she works as a senior specialist in the Quality Control Department of the Kusum Pharm LLC.

Alina spoke on distribution of translation areas according to the company's structure and about features of the quality control translation. The speaker shared valid documents regulating pharmacy translation. She demonstrated widely used translation techniques. Also, students were offered an interactive part where everyone could try translation skills.

Svitlana Shvachko (professor), Iryna Kobiakova (department head, professor), Larysa Shchyhlo (associate professor) and Oksana Brovkina (senior lecturer) took part in the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Problems of Ensuring Life Quality in the Globalized World". It was organized by the Academy of Applied Sciences in Opole (Poland) together with Ukrainian and foreign universities. Sumy State University was among them. The conference was held on 7-8 December 2022.

Oleksandra Derkach (a 3rd-year student of the Department of Germanic Philology) received a certificate confirming her knowledge of the German language at the B1 level.

Being in the Czech Republic, Oleksandra chose the Goethe-Zertifikat international test. The Goethe-Zertifikat certification is intended for a wide audience of users: children, teenagers and adults. The document covers all branches of language knowledge according to the international CEFR scale (A1 to C2). Each certificate is recognized in German educational institutions and confirms language skills of its owner within a certain degree.

On 23-27 November 2022, PhD students were trained at the Lodz University of Technology within the Baltic University program. The Department of Germanic Philology was presented by Yuliia Lukianova (a PhD student of the A-13/PR group).

Participants from 12 countries met and discussed scientific issues and research projects focused on sustainable development in interdisciplinary, international, multicultural and regional contexts. The program included: writing articles, preparing presentations, mass media communication, individual consultations on the PhD thesis with invited experts, its public defense.

As a member of the SumDU vocal studio, Kateryna Kolodiazhna (a student from the Department of Germanic Philology) worthily represented the department and the university at the VI International Art Festival "Lymanski Zori" (Mykolaiv). There, she got the gold.

The event took place on 5 November 2022. It was supported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. The competition format was remote. The participants recorded their performances and demonstrated them on YouTube.

A video meeting with Anastasiia Naumenko (a 3rd-year student of the Department of Germanic Philology) took place on 25 November 2022. It was held within the Travel Office Club by Olena Nazarenko and Antonina Prokopenko.

Anastasiia was glad to share her experience of moving, adapting and living in the United States. She talked on benefits and disadvantages of American life and local study opportunities.

The Department of Germanic Philology joined the international grant project "Ukraine Digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis". It is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The main aim of this project is to create lasting connections between German and Ukrainian higher education institutions. The program goal is digitization of German and Ukrainian universities with the prospect of developing joint virtual courses. The project is implemented in close cooperation with lecturers from the partner University of Duisburg-Essen.
