Lately, the Master in Philology students were awarded diplomas at the Department of Germanic Philology. Because of the COVID-19 epidemiological situation, the ceremony was held in a limited format.

Lecturers and students of the Department of Germanic Philology successfully completed an advanced training within the online course "GetSet for Successful Career", which was joined by a great number of participants from different countries. The course was developed by Sumy State University (Ukraine) and Islamic Azad University (Iran).

On 13 January 2022 in the presence of the FPSC Faculty dean, associate professor Olena Sushkova and department staff, the head of the Department of Germanic Philology, professor Iryna Kobyakova made an annual report on the department work in 2021.

The purpose of the competition "SumDU Pedagogical Innovations-2021" is stimulating university staff to create new and spread modern teaching forms and methods for a high education level.

Dear Department of Germanic Philology! The year 2021 is coming to the end. New Year and Christmas holidays are approaching.  

Our dear students, may the coming year bring along new hopes and new opportunities. May you learn from your past mistakes and accomplish your aims for future with your strength and dedication.

Students and lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology do their best to come together in a fabulous Christmas time and maintain the New Year atmosphere even during the quarantine. SumDU translators organized and held an online meeting dedicated to the New Year and Christmas holidays.

On December 24, a Christmas meeting of students and lecturers with Lena Zuttmeier was organized. The guest is a graduate of the Department of Germanic Philology. Now, she lives in Germany, works at the Ministry of Education and as a headteacher at gymnasium. The students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies “Travel Office” guided by Olena Nazarenko and Alla Krasuliа held the meeting.

Nataliia Ivanova, a fourth-year student majoring in Philology, took part in the Ukrainian Powerlifting Championship among young students of the CYSS. It took place in Kolomyia (14-21 December 2021).

Anastasia Ostrokomorets and Kateryna Mushtai (students of the Department of Germanic Philology) successfully passed the selection among students of graduate translation specialties of Ukrainian universities and took part in a 90-hour internship from Women in Localiation Ukraine and ProZ.com. They completed the full cycle of translation and localization from English into Ukrainian under the guidance of experts.

On December 18, the 3rd round of All-Ukrainian Vitaliy Keis Contest of Shakespeare Studies for Young Researchers was held at Zaporizhzhia National University. This year the Department of Germanic Philology sent one research project ("Linguistic aspects of concept MUSIC actualization in William Shakespeare comedies", Karyna Vedmydera supervised by Maryna Chernyk). Besides, three creative projects were prepared: "Specification of actualizing art synthesis in the aspect of filming William Shakespeare's sonnets" (Valeriia Smolianinova), "Song as a kind of synthetic art in the structure of the drama film "Romeo and Juliette" (Anastasiia Dediukhina), "Influence of William Shakespeare's works on Ukrainian art in the past and present" (Valentyna Rebenok). All three projects were supervised by Olena Emelyanova
