On 24 October 2022, the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies organized an online lecture. The speaker was Dr. Mathias Richter (a German politologist, philosopher and journalist). The topic was "Who is the people? On the gap of power in the symbolic dispositiv of democracy". Among the present faculty students, there was group PR-12/1 as well.

This autumn, the Department of Germanic Philology joined the international grant project Ukraine Digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project aim is to support Ukrainian lecturers and students in times of the crisis we are all experiencing.

On 13 October 2022, Czech higher education and life were new topics of discussion within the Travel Office Club under Olena Nazarenko (lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology). Oleksandra Derkach, a third-year Philology student being at Masaryk University, was the meeting guest.

On 10-13 October 2022, a workshop on sustainable development in higher education was held in Tallinn (Estonia) as a part of the Baltic University Program.

19 representatives from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Finland, Slovakia and Estonia took part in the event, which was hosted in Tallinn University. Within the Ukrainian team, there were lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology.

On 6-9 October 2022, the BookForum International Festival was held again in Lviv. There was a live broadcast for the whole world thanks to the Hay Festival (Great Britain) support. Daryna Hudakova, a third year student of the Department of Germanic Philology, participated in it.

Within the forum, about twenty events were organized. There were over forty authors not only from Ukraine but also from different parts of the world. Definitely, the main topic was the Ukrainian war, so all events were focused on this issue. In addition, the program highlighted such key topics as women and war, money and culture, propaganda, war crimes and memory.

During the summer cooperation between Sumy State University and Liverpool University, lecturers and students of the Department of Germanic Philology had an opportunity to participate in the International Summer School (online and offline).

The participants have mastered the program "Fake News, Fake Science and Critical Thinking: What Should I Believe?" for three weeks. Summer school classes were built on cooperation, practical tasks and lively communication.

Alona Nikolenko (a 3-rd year student of the Department of Germanic Philology) had a unique opportunity to take part in a 10-week online program in German philology at university in Tübingen, Germany. The course was held in Zoom and brought together students from different parts of the world, regardless of time zones or borders.

The program included modules about political system, gastronomic culture, education and language in Germany.

On 29 September 2022, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology Olena Nazarenko, Oksana Brovkina, Antonina Prokopenko and Iryna Ushchapovska attended the webinar "University Media and Marketing Strategies” (based on Liverpool University practice). It was organized by Sumy State University together with University of Liverpool.

On September 30, we celebrate International Translator's Day. This profession is of paramount significance in the world. Translating is not only about literally conveying the speech sense, as most people believe. Instead, it is about culture of languages, history, feelings.

Scholarships of the Head of Sumy Oblast State Administration are awarded every year for outstanding achievements in education, research activity and public work. This year, Oleksandra Pavliv (a 3rd-year student, the Department of Germanic Philology) and Hanna Zinchenko (a parallel study student) became scholarship recipients.
