Teaching staff

Main structure of the teaching staff of the educational program consists of the teaching staff of the Department of Germanic Philology (Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications). Also, the teaching staff of the FPSC Faculty is involved in providing individual courses in accordance with their competence and experience.

The lecturers who teach within the program are active and recognized scientists, representatives of national and international professional associations (DAAD), who publish their papers in Ukrainian and foreign scientific magazines, and have relevant professional competence and experience in the field of teaching, research and educational work.

The practice-oriented nature of the educational program implies a wide participation of practitioners, who are relevant to the program, and the involvement of competent high-level experts, including representatives of trade unions and associations to teaching (All-Ukrainian Association of Cognitive Linguistics and Poetics, All-Ukrainian Union of Translation Teachers and the Association of Ukrainian German Language researchers), which strengthen the synergetic relationships of theoretical and practical education.

Material and technical support

According to the study program the educational process takes place in rooms and laboratories equipped with audio and visual equipment and the necessary technical means. According to the study program during the educational and scientific work 2 computer classes equipped with licensed programs are used: a software multimedia network training class NetClassPro + DLL and a dialogue Nibelung, 4 multimedia rooms.

Information, learning and methodic provisions

Students of this educational program can use the library-information buildings, the interuniversity scientific library, separate libraries and library points at the educational and research structural divisions of the university. Information resources of the SSU Library for the educational program are formed in accordance with the subject area and current trends of scientific research in this field. Students can access all printed publications in various languages, including monographs, tutorials, textbooks, dictionaries, etc. However, they can browse the literature using traditional library search tools or use Internet access and databases. Access to all library databases is provided through University's internal network. The e-learning system is actively developing. Students have access to educational courses prepared by teachers in the e-learning system, including textbooks, lectures’ presentations, lecture notes, methodical instructions for practical, laboratory, seminar, individual tasks, etc. Methodical material can be provided both in printed and in electronic form.

For remote access to teaching materials, the OCW platform of the SSU has been developed (the platform allows you to combine materials from distance courses, the Lectur`ED designer with the possibility of teamwork on electronic learning resources, materials of the library's electronic catalog, repository and links to external educational resources).The methodical material is periodically updated and adapted to the

Preconditions

Complete secondary education, external independent evaluation. Possibility of entering on the basis of a junior specialist diploma. Other requirements are determined by the rules of admission to the educational-professional program of the relevant year of entry.

Description of the degree program:

The program is aimed at gaining by students in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in linguistics and translatology, which will enable them to perform effectively innovative tasks of a certain level of professional activity oriented at researches and solution of complex translation problems to meet the requirements of customers from science, business and enterprises in different spheres. The aim of study is in acquiring academic and professional qualification to carry out the professional activity, the preparation of a competitive specialist capable to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the field of linguistics and translation in the process of professional activity or in the process of study, involving the application of theories and methods of philological science and is characterized by complexity and uncertainty of the conditions.

Focused on the analysis of the application of translation norms in oral and written translations with the profiling “Germanistics”, “Legal translation” and “Translation in the providing of foreign economic activity”; in building the target text; the use of relevant business communication strategies at international meetings, presentations, negotiations, business sessions, conferences, etc.; orientation in the glossary and basic applied trends of the modern translatology; emphasis on teaching foreign languages and translation in educational establishments.

The program is based on the well-known results in translatology and methodology of teaching with regard to the modern state of linguistics, target at topical specializations and profiling (Germanistics, Legal translation, Translation in the providing of foreign economic activity).

Graduate ability for employment

Bachelor in Philology can work in scientific, literary-publishing, educational spheres; he can take teaching, scientific-research and administrative places in educational establishments of the 1-4th accreditation levels; in printed and electronic media, PR-technologies, different founds, associations, humanitarian foundations, museums, artistic and cultural centers, etc.

Further education

The program offers the possibility to study at the second level of education in philology, linguistics, languages, translatology, in interdisciplinary programs close to humanities.

Teaching

Student-centred learning, problem-oriented learning, electronic learning in OCW system of SumSU, self-learning, laboratory practice learning, research-based learning. Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures, multimedia lectures, interactive lectures, seminars, practical and laboratory classes. The independent work is also provided and combines consulting with the lecturer, e-learning in some educational components, individual classes and group project work.

Assessment

The educational program provides for formative (written and oral comments and tutorials of teachers in the process of learning, self-assessment skills, involvement of students in the evaluation of each other's work) and summation (written examinations in academic disciplines, evaluation of the current work during the study of certain educational components (written essays, presentations, testing), defense of reports on practice, presentation of course paper, public defense of qualifying work, examinations on Bachelor degree) evaluation.
