On November 30, the lecture on writing and indexing scientific papers was held at the Department of Germanic Philology by the Section of SSSP (Scientific Society of Students and Postgraduates) of the FPSC Faculty.

 

The audience learned how to select relevant scientific literature to produce the theoretical and practical research parts. The speaker represented free online libraries, where researchers can find scientific sources from the last five years. It was also revealed about potential of such scientometric databases as Scopus, Web of Science, Index Copernicus (registration, search for publications).

 

The lecturer gave students advice on finding illustrative material for research. Using corpora of texts is focused on. There, authentic communicative fragments from native speakers are collected (British National Corpus, Corpus of Contemporary American English). We should apply the BrainyQuote database to search for original quotes from different cultures. The free online resource archive.orgwhere you can find scanned lexicographical sources in other languages, was also shown.

 

Finally, the students got acquainted with search for professional publishing platforms to print their study results. It was reported on the Ukrainian Register of Scientific Publications and scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science, Index Copernicus.

 

The students also learned possibilities of promoting their research in the scientific community, archiving works in the SumDU Repository and creating scientific profiles in such databases as Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, ResearchGate.
