The teaching staff of the Department of Germanic Philology actively presented their research works at the All-Ukrainian Scientific-Practical Conference «Synergy in Philological Researches» at the Zaporizhzhia National University and at the XIV International Scientific and Practical conference «Languages and the World: Research and Teaching» at Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University, Kropyvnytskyi city.

Conferences Programmes

As a part of the career oriented activities, the lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology, Nataliia Prykhodko, along with the students of the group PR-64, Mykhailo Trypolskyi, Ilona Kupavka and the student of the group PR-63 Vladyslav Zarva, held meetings with the high school students of Sumy schools No 6 and 17.
The students shared their own experience of obtaining profession of a translator, described the advantages of studying at SumDU and invited the high school students to the Department to acquaint them further with the specifics of the translator profession.

The first-year students Yuliia Husenko, Alina Serdiuk, Anna Chudnivets, Karyna Vedmydera, and Hlafira Mazur took part in the conference “First Step to Science”, that took place in the Conference Hall of Sumy State University, on February 23.
The students prepared their reports, led by the senior lecturers of the department of Germanic philology,  Iryna Ushchapovska and Alla Krasulia. The young scientists told about main points of comparative and historical linguistics, the highlights of structuralism as historical linguistics, the theory of information in linguistics, the perception and verbalization of non-verbal codes of space, time, and silence in different national and cultural environments, and the molodogramatysm as the main trend in linguistics in 19th-20th centuries.

On 19 February, a new meeting of students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies "Travel Office" headed by the lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Olena Nazarenko took place  .
Students-translators of all years of study, lecturers of the Department and guests came to meet a graduate of specialization Translation at SumDU Yuliia Polonska Smith and Seabrook Smith in order to take advice from the USA citizens about getting a visa to America, studying at American universities and self-progression in the labour market – about how to maximise your attractiveness to employers - and about living in the country of opportunities.

On February 18th, in the room ET-122, a small excursion to poetic Poland took place with the assistance of candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department of Electronics and Computer Technology and teacher of the Latin language - Oleksandr Kobyakov. The head of students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies "Travel Office" Olena Nazarenko gathered future translators to immerse into the world of magic Poland.
From personal experience Oleksandr Mykolaiovych told about the most beautiful cities, the best universities and the most prominent people of this country.

Every interested person can get more free information concerning university education in the USA, specification of American English and different peculiarities of living abroad.

 The Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology, Alla Krasulia , Lecturer Olena Nazarenko and a sophomore Mariia Hartsunova joined an initiative meeting with a Peace Corps Volunteer Ms. Morgan Campbell (USA). The meeting was organized by the Faculty of Teacher Training, SumDU. The purpose was to arrange English Speaking Club for lecturers of Sumy State University to improve their speaking English skills.

Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine, Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology Svitlana Shvachko  received a diploma for the significant contribution to the development of scientific schools in the field of philology from the President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, academician of NAS of Ukraine, academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine Vasyl Kremen.
The staff of the department sincerely congratulates Svitlana Oleksiivna and wishes her further scientific and creative achievements, good health and inspiration!!!

During January 2020, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology actively worked as members of the jury during the 3rd (regional) level of All-Ukrainian pupil academic competitions in English and German, which were held at the Sumy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education.
Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology Halyna Chulanova and lecturer Olena Nazarenko were members of the jury of the academic competition in English.
The works of academic competitions in German were evaluated by Associate Professor Diana Movchan and Senior Lecturer Antonina Chepeliuk.

On January 24th at the Department of Germanic Philology   were awarded diplomas to the Master students who studied under the extramural program Master in Philology .
