On January, 14th the Head of the Department of Germanic Philology, Professor Iryna Kobyakova in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty FPSC, Associate Professor Olena Sushkova, lecturers and the staff of the department made an annual report on the work of the Department of Germanic Philology in the year 2019.

In her report Iryna Karpivna emphasized the achievements and successes of the Department, highly estimated students’ and lecturers’ work in the research field and in the area of promoting the Department in the world, noted that our students and graduates are demanded among Ukrainian and foreign employers, admitted some drawbacks in the working results, mentioned plans and outlooks for the year 2020.

Teachers of Sumy comprehensive schools have visited SumDU and the Department of Germanic Philology .

Implementing occupational guidance for prospective students, lecturers of the Department Olena Nazarenko and Larysa Hartsunova organized an excursion for teachers, told about advantages of studying and having advanced training, represented educational opportunities provided by Translation Training and Resource Center «LinguoStar» for teachers and future students.

On December 19 online defence of Master Paper by a Master student Oleksandra Bila took place at the Department of Germanic Philology .
According to academic mobility program Oleksandra continues her studying at Otto-Friedrich University in Bamberg, Germany. She introduced her work “Relevant Approaches to Translating Eurolect (Case Study of the English-Ukrainian Language Pair)”, which was written under research supervision of Associate Professor Olesia Yehorova.

The student of the faculty FPSC of SumDU Diana Nestorenko (specialty “Philology”) has received the scholarship from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for 2019-2020 academic year.
We congratulate Diana and wish her further professional and personal achievements!

Travel Office supervised by the lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Olena Nazarenko has gathered the 1st year IT students, students-translators and lecturers Antonina Prokopenko, Vladyslava Kulish and Larysa Hartsunova. They had the opportunity to learn about the internship in Romania under the Erasmus+ program. A 3rd year student, Anastasiia Chasovskykh, shared her experience of a 3-month internship at the University of A.I. Cuza (Iasi, Romania).
Nastia gladly shared the tips of the selection (how to write motivation letters and fill out papers), told useful peculiarities on how to act in unexpected situations and not to give up when you get rejected for the upteenth time, explained the nuances of studying abroad and answered all the questions from extremely interested freshmen.

 The second-year student-translator Nataliia Ivanova has become the Champion of Ukraine. From November 26 till December 2 the Powerlifting Championship of Ukraine between pupils of Children's and Youth Sports School was held in Chernivtsy. Nataliia has won a gold medal in the category up to 57 kg between the sub-junior women. The student of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications сollected 275 kg in the amount of the triathlon (squat 97, 5+ bench press 47,5+ lift 130).

A 3rd-year student Alyona Tsehelnyk, participated in the volunteering project in Croatia, financed by European Union. The main objective of the “Green Fingers – Let’s Get Gardening” project was to raise awareness among elementary and middle school kids about the ecological situation in the world and the ways to prevent environmental pollution.

- I’ll remember these two months for a long time, - says Alyona. – It’s a valuable experience to live in another country, in a dissimilar environment and in a group of people who come from all around Europe. By the way, this experience is available for everyone interested in it.

Students of the group PR-71 Daria Ivanova and Anastasiia Chasovskykh became finalists of the Vitalii Keis All-Ukrainian Shakespeare Competition for Student Research and Creative Projects. The final stage of the competition was held on November 30 at Zaporizhzhia National University.
Daria presented her project under the scientific supervision of Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology Olena Yemelianova Anastasiia - under the guidance of Assistant of the Department of Germanic Philology Maryna Chernik.
