ESOL is an international English language proficiency test at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The exam is developed by one of the UK's leading LanguageCert exam boards, which is regulated by the Ofqual Ministerial Department for Qualifications and Exams. The ESOL test meets the qualification criteria of the European Association of Language Test Developers (ALTE). Detailed information about the test can be found on the exam website

ESOL certification is widely recognized by employers, ministries and educational institutions in many countries around the world. The test result has an indefinite validity and needs no confirmation.

 October 18 within the framework of the students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies Travel Office under the guidance of the lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology Olena Nazarenko  fourth year students met their colleagues - sophomores. The girls spoke about studying and working in Germany, summer language courses, cultural backgrounds, everyday life and opportunities to visit the country.
The first who shared her impressions after an unforgettable trip was Alina Ponomarenko, a fourth-year student. After the 3rd year of studying the girl went to Germany to work. She highlighted the sincerity, the willingness to help and the open-mindedness of the Germans.

Senior lecturer of the department of Germanic philology at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of SumDU, the director of Ukrainian-Polish Collaboration Centre Iryna Ushchapovska participated in the XXI session of Consortium of Ukrainian universities and the University of Warsaw.

The session took place at of Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University. The session of the Consortium was at the time of celebrating 100th anniversary of this educational institution. The participants were the heads and representatives of 12 educational establishments of Ukraine, the General Consul of the Republic of Poland Damian Ciarciński,...

Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology Nataliia Tatsenko presented SumDU at the solemn official meeting at the Canadian Embassy in order to discuss further opportunities for Collaboration with the faculty of philology in Canadian universities. The meeting was held on the occasion of Languages Canada Association visit, the organization that brings together public and private education establishments (language schools, colleges and universities) which offer English and French language programs as well as bachelor's, master's and postgraduate programs. The main goal of Canadian educators is to find partners among Ukrainian universities. Therefore, Sumy State University is pleased to collaborate with its Canadian counterparts.

 Professor Svitlana Shvachko and professor, the head of the department of Germanic Philology Iryna Kobyakova have participated in II World Congress in Real and Virtual Mode – East-West: the Intersection of Culture which took place on October 2-6 at Kyoto Sangyo University (Japan, Kyoto).
In their on-line via Skype speech Svitlana Oleksiivna and Iryna Karpivna presented to the whole world their scientific research “Linguocognitive aspects of humour category”.

On occasion of Translation Day, September 30th, the lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology led by the head of the department, professor Iryna Kobyakova has told senior students on the Bachelor's degree about academic and professional prospects opened in term of different educational programs of SSU Master course.The Master educational program guarantors and the representatives of the Department of Germanic Philology have told students about the advantages of Master's level, the attraction of extend acquirement of professional abilities. 

 

DAAD lector Karsten Grunwaldt met with 1 and 3 year students of specialization Translation within the framework of the Students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies Travel Office under the guidance of the lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology Olena Nazarenko  and the discipline “Linguistic studies of German Speaking Countries” taught by associate professor Olesia Yehorova ,
Karsten told the students about summer internship opportunities at Germany under the DAAD program. In the presence of a certificate of knowledge B1 German level, students can choose from almost any German university and study for free for about a month.

International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30 September. That was the day, when the students of the specialization Translation and lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology gathered to celebrate this professional holiday.
The head of the Department of Germanic Philology, Professor Iryna Kobyakova congratulated all the present, especially freshmen, on their professional holiday, wished them a decent job and presented thematic gifts. Iryna Karpivna also shared information about one of the most important department achievements this year - opening a postgraduate study, where she invited students for further education. Now our students can steadily scale new heights, deepen their knowledge, develop their translation skills and pave the way to science.


Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Anna Zinchenko participated in the international training course “Cooperate and escape” organized by Erasmus+, that took place on September, 20 – 26 in Barcelona, Spain.
The main topic of this project was the creation of educational escape rooms that will foster the development of social competences among young people. During the course participants not only got acquainted with the topic of gameplay learning and the game theory, but also immersed themselves into the process of a designing an educational key room. The final stage of the training was the test of the self-made escape room for students of vocational school in one Catalonian city.

The 2nd year student of specialization Translation Nataliia Ivanova participated in the Championship of Ukraine in classic powerlifting among all age groups and the Championship of Ukraine among students of higher education on September 18-26.
Nataliia possessed the third place (squatting 97.5 kg, bench press 45 kg, thrust 120 kg), and also received medals in individual exercises: squatting – the third place, thrust – the second place) and became the silver medalist of ChU among the students of higher educational institutions with the sum 255 kg. The athlete was trained by Pavlo Mohylnikov, Volodymyr Bakliak, Ivan Kaptilov.
