Senior Lecturer at the Department of Germanic Philology  Svetlana Ermolenko has received a scholarship for advanced training in Germany, Schwäbisch Hall.

The German Language Teaching and Training Seminar was held in summer and it covered the virtual phase (2 online phases) and the attendance phase. The workshop took place in an interesting and picturesque place, included a cultural program, giving many opportunities for language and methodical practice as well as establishing contacts with participants from other countries.

 

Associate professor at the Department of Germanic Philology Olesia Yehorova, and students of specialization Translation, received a thank-you note from the public organization Wikimedia Ukraine and its representative Vira Motorko.
We are grateful for the translation of Wikipedia articles, a publicly available, multilingual encyclopedia with free content performed by students under the lecturer's guidance during May 2019.
The message states: “Thank you very much for this work! I hope your experience with Wikipedia was only positive. Can I help you with anything? You probably already know about the Wikipedia tool for translating articles. You may find it helpful to track the submission of a group of people to Wikipedia. We try to keep in touch with active lecturers who use Wikipedia in their teaching process. If we can help you somehow, be sure to let us know. "

You came to an important border in your fateful path. What it will be like - greatly depends on the profession you have chosen.

For each of you it was a time full of new information and interesting experiments. You studied to translate, to use gained knowledge on practice and now you’re leaving our university as certified translators.

Some of you will reach a stable professional way, but some others will have a rapid career rise. Anyway, remember: Knowledge will always be your valuable intellectual benefit. "All mine is always with me" - said the ancient Greek sage Biant and your knowledge will always be with you.

Diploma of SSU will open the doors of leading companies and institutions for you because a translator that has graduated from SSU indicates the professionalism and demand in the labor market not only in Ukraine but also abroad.

I believe that each of you will worthily represent translators of SSU.

I wish you, dear graduates, successful career start, a lot of happy events and prosperity. Let your path be bright and happy smiles always appear on your faces.

Students of specialty successfully defended their Bachelor's papers and demonstrated deep knowledge in the methodology of foreign language teaching.

Lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology had a wonderful opportunity to hear from Ukrainian and foreign students (Eldorbek Hamitov and Michelle Alarcon) about the latest tendencies in the methodology of teaching according to the new Education Act, see presentations to Bachelor papers and practical study manuals, which will significantly help foreign language teachers.

Professor of the Department of Germanic philology Iryna Kobiakova and professor Svitlana Shvachko took part in the linguistic seminar "Key Problems of Germanic and Romanian Linguistics", which was held from May 27 to June 2 at Lesia Ukrainka Eastern European National University (Lutsk).

A common research "The heritage of Kobzar from Toronto to Kyiv: the category of negation" has both scientific and practical significance, drawing the attention of college linguists and employers of the publishing and museum activities.

In the 21st century, Internet has become the main information source. Millions of Internet users daily share current and general information, create new websites and content blocks, or try to let more users worldwide benefit from the existing ones. On these grounds, during May, students, Group PR-71/1 were working on developing the free online encyclopedia – Wikipedia. In the context of studying the topic “Performing Arts”, the students were assigned to select relevant to the topic English-language articles and work out their Ukrainian versions.

On June 3rd, ten-grade students of schools №6 and №25 along with their teachers visited our alma mater. To the attention of future entrants were presented introductory videos and a tour. Lecturers of the department of Germanic Philology Olena Nazarenko and Larysa Hartsunova told about academic opportunities of SSU, in particular, language courses, the material base of the department, elective courses, simultaneous studying at two specializations or even in two countries in frames of exchange programs. Students of the group PR-61 Valeriia Halezhenko, Aliona Kovalenko and Mariia Klymenko prepared interesting English-language quizzes and competitions for guests, and also told about personal experience of studying, traveling, the first works according to the specialization and research activity.

In May students’ club of linguistic and cultural studies “Travel Office” under the guidance of Olena Nazarenko (lecturer of the department of Germanic philology) had a unique opportunity to get students of specialty acquainted with Denmark.

The manager of Danish company Mäsegaard Olena Ushchapovska, who has been living and making a successful career in Denmark for several years, told about features of this mysterious northern country.

The meeting took an hour and a half instead of the planned half an hour, but students were simply fascinated by new information, revealing Denmark in all its glory.

The first graduates of the Czech language course at the Translation Training and Resource Center «LinguoStar» on the base of Sumy State University have got their certificates.

All interested people have successfully completed their training and received certificates confirming knowledge of the Czech language at level A1. The students gladly wished to continue their training on the next level.

On the May 15th-16th, in Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University took place the 20th jubilee meeting of the Consortium of Ukrainian universities and the University of Warsaw. At the meeting SSU was presented by Volodymyr Liubchak (Vice-rector for research and pedagogic work, international activity and technical support of SSU) and Iryna Ushchapovska (senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic philology, director of the Centre for Ukrainian-Polish cooperation).
