Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Alla Krasulia took part in the seminar of using digital technologies by teachers in the educational process. Workshop topics included theoretical background and practical recommendations on using online resources, namely: Kahoot, Quizlet, Padlet, Mentimeter etc. The three-day event was financially suppored by #CzDA within the project #CULS and Sumy State University.

The lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Nataliia Prykhodko took part in «National Seminar for Extraordinary Teachers» which was held by Innovational Learning and Teaching Center of National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Nyzhnii Studenyi village in Zakarpattia region where the innovations and challenges in teaching and also creative tasks for attraction and were discussed.
Nataliia Anatoliivna also took part in online international interpreting conference organized by UTIC in «Meteorit» camp near Dnipro city. Conference participants from different countries (Israel, the Netherlands, Italy etc.) exchanged their experience and discussed the prospects of development of translation industry in the world, and in Ukraine in particular.

On September, 11th Sumy State University hosted a workshop “Ukraine – NATO: cooperation for peace”
Students of the Department of Germanic Philology, group PR-71/2 had the opportunity not only to attend a lecture by a well-known specialist in International Security Policy Hryhorii Perepelytsia, professor of Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv on the topic “Key NATO’s objectives, values and principles of work in Ukraine. Benefits of cooperation Ukraine – NATO”, to communicate with the First Secretary of the British Embassy in Ukraine, Mr. James Roed-Moore, and project experts, but also to take active part in the simulation game.

This summer , Vitalii Dorda, Ph.D. of the Department of Germanic Philology, finished his traineeship in China.  The internship started in autumn 2018. He got a grant from Shanghai University, which was based on the Institute of foreign languages. The purpose of the training was to compare the differences between teaching methodologies in Chinese schools and linguistic centers according to the international demands. Educators from Croatia, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, and India also participated in the traineeship.
Vitalii Dorda researched the new ways of teaching English in Chinese schools in consideration of cultural and national diversity because one of the main issues in China is qualitative preparation for the international exams.

Yuliia Lazutkina, the fifth-year student of the Department of Germanic Philology  (group PR.m-91), has become a finalist at the annual literary contest.
The VII International Contest of Belletristic for Children and Youth “Korniychukovska Award” was held in Odessa. The event enables writers from all over the world to try their hand at children and youth literature. This year, 352 writers from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Israel and Uzbekistan took part in the contest.
Yulia sent her story about the cat named Corsair, that had given the title to the whole story about the circus cat, who turns into a stray one, has to fight to survive, but finally he finds loving masters and learns to love them as well. One of the messages of the story is that evil breeds evil and love breeds love.
The story got to the short-list in the nomination “Prose for Young Children. Ukrainian Writers”.

In August 2019, the 41st Otto-Friedrich International Summer University in Bamberg gathered more than 70 participants from 21 countries. Among them – Otto-Friedrich University scholarship grant holders Olesia Yehorova, associate professor at the Department of Germanic Philology, and Alina Shynkarenko, student of group PR-62.
The leitmotif of the 41st International Summer University contained the topics of German literature and music; however, the offered curriculum also envisages courses of region studies, stylistics, methods of teaching German as a foreign language, grammar and vocabulary building courses, as well as courses for pleasure (theater, creative writing, choir, games, etc.) under the guidance of the university's senior students.

Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology  Olesia Yehorova was awarded a scholarship for participation in the programme for German language teachers “Language, Area Studies, and Intercultural Learning” which took place in summer 2019 in Bremen. The programme, which gathered 25 German language teachers from around the globe, primarily focused on the issues of knowledge transfer in the fields of Language and Area Studies, especially within culturological approach, and the typology of tasks and learning forms to reach the desired learning goals, as well as designing the tasks for different learning levels.
