In autumn 2022, the Department of Germanic Philology joined the international grant project "Ukraine Digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis", funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project aim is to support Ukrainian lecturers and students during the crisis we all experience.

With the 2023 project extension, translation students will once again get the opportunity to obtain practical training provided by best lecturers from the partner University of Duisburg-Essen. In October 2023, the traditional online meeting of the 1st year students-translators was held with Dr. Iris Bäcker. She specializes in Slavic and Germanic studies, literary translation, communication and didactics.

On 12 October 2023, the 75th anniversary of SumDU founding and #ErasmusDays 2023 held a round table "Systemic Impact of International Projects on the Development of Ukrainian Universities and Higher Education: From Tempus to Erasmus+ and the European University Alliances".

The event purpose was to spread the successful long-term university experience in realizing international projects, to identify promising topics and programs for future grants.

On 25 September 2023, at the Travel Office meeting under Olena Nazarenko (a lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology), Valentyna Rebenok (a Philology student) spoke about advantages and disadvantages of the Erasmus+ program. Shared her own experience on adaptation in a new country.

On 25-29 September 2023, a range of webinars «Be Yourself in English: The Future of Language Learning» was organized by the Pearson Language Learning educational platform. They were attended by the department lecturers Olesia Yehorova and Antonina Prokopenko.

The webinar speakers were PhDs, certified lecturers, experienced foreign language teachers and international communication consultants. One raised the issue of utilization of various tools, techniques and trends that help higher education applicants develop confidence in the usage of the English language.

On 29 September 2023, just before the International Translation Day, a meeting was held to introduce the Department of Germanic Philology to its first-year students. The event had a special meaning for the freshmen, who were explained about the value of the professional holiday and peculiarities of their chosen specialty «Philology». However, the lecturers also gladly joined the meeting: in the current conditions, such an event is a unique opportunity to meet students in a less formal setting.

The THEA Ukraine X project "Multiplication Trainings for Higher Education Administrators in Ukraine" with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the University of Applied Sciences Münster (FH Münster) has been successfully completed.

Two groups of 6 participants were selected within the Programme to become trainers for colleagues from a number of Ukrainian universities. The selected participants had to develop an educational concept for their university, which was to be implemented with the support of a tandem trainer during the project.

Oksana Brovkina (a senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology) took the 3rd place in the contest "ICT Innovations for Modern  Education ICT4EDU 2021-2023". The nomination was "Mobile Devices in the Educational Process (BYOD), Usage of Existing Software Products".

The project title was "Visualization of Information with One's Own Mobile Devices for Successful Acquisition of the German Language. Development of Critical Thinking in Philology Students by Involving Digital Technologies".

On 13 September 2023, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology took part in the meeting of permanent interfaculty scientific seminars at Sumy State University. The seminar title was "Application of sociological data in scientific research and decision-making practice".

On 12 September 2023, Olena Nazarenko (vice dean for extramural studies and distance learning) as well as Olha Hramma and Yaroslava Reshetniak (representatives of the Center for Extramural, Distance and Part-Time Education) showed the second-year Philology students directions and advantages of the parallel education at Sumy State University.

Graduate of the Department of Germanic Philology Iryna Kuts shares her impressions of 6 academic years:
