History of the Department

 

2021

Anna Zinchenko defended her Ph.D. thesis (10.02.04 − Germanic Languages) and acquired the degree of Ph.D. in Philology. 

 

5th-year students Aliona Kovalenko (“The English-speaking neocovidocon as a representation of the new normality: translation dimension”) and Valeriia Rava (“Correlation of cognitive processes and interpreter working memory”) won the 1st place in the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in the Translation Specialty, Lviv.

 

Mariia Rudenko got the 2nd place for her paper "Impact of proper names in English cinematic discourse on nowadays society" at All-Ukrainian Contest of Students' Research in Sociolinguistics, Lviv.

 

Anna Reshytko, a postgraduate student, took the 2nd place at the All-Ukrainian Contest of Literary Translation for Young Translators, which took place at Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University.

 

Yuliia Kozlova got the 2nd place for her research "Pandemic lexical innovations of the English language: peculiarities of formation and functioning" at All-Ukrainian Contest of Students' Research in Germanic Languages.

 

Daryna Melnyk  got the 3rd place for her research "Structural and semantic peculiarities of English advertising slogans" at All-Ukrainian Contest of Students' Research in Germanic Languages.

 

September 2020


Iryna Ushchapovska defended her Ph.D. thesis (10.02.04 − Germanic Languages) and acquired the degree of Ph.D. in Philology.

2019-2020

Valeriia Rava won the 1st place for her research in the All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in Germanic Languages, Kyiv (research supervisor - assistant professor Antonina Prokopenko).

Alina Ponomarenko won the 3rd place for her research in the All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in Germanic languages, Kyiv (research supervisor – lecturer Olena Nazarenko).

 

 

Aliona Kovalenko received the third-degree diploma in the All-Ukrainian Contest of Students' Research in Sociolinguistics, Lviv.

Diana Levkovych received the award in the nomination «For the unique idea» in the All-Ukrainian Contest of Students' Research in Sociolinguistics, Lviv.

Iryna Kuts got the third place in the XI Interuniversity Contest of Young Translators, held at the Faculty of Linguistics and Social Communications of the National Aviation University, Kyiv.

2018-2019

Nataliia Tatsenko defended the doctoral thesis and  acquired the degree of Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department for Germanic Philology.

December 2018

Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology Alla Krasulia received the 1st degree certificate  according to the results of the SSU contest “The Best Lecturer in Students’ Eyes”.

September 2018

Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology Alla Krasulia gained the victory in all-university contest at SSU “Using Personal Gadgets in the Studying Process”.

2016-2017

Tetiana Koval received the 2nd degree certificate in the 2nd round of All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in Romano-Germanic Languages and Literature at Kherson State University.

Kseniia Liashch received the 3rd degree certificate in the 2nd round of All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in Romano-Germanic Languages and Literature at Kherson State University.

Yuliia Lazutkina received the 3rd degree certificate in the 2nd round of All-Ukrainian Contest of Students’ Research in Translation (Lviv).

Vladyslava Kulish, Antonina Prokopenko, Olena Ovsianko defended theses and acquired the degree of Ph.D. in Philology (10.02.04 – Germanic languages).

2015-2016

Students of Translation speciality Yuliya Luzutkina, Anastasiya Yehorova and Vitalii Stepanov got the medal places in different nominations for best translations in annual All-Ukrainian Student Translation Contest “Art of declamation in the world literature” (V. Dal Eastern-Ukrainian National University).

Second year student Marharita Polupan won the 3rd place in the contest "The best creative translation" which was hosted by V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

April 2016

5-academic-year student of Translation speciality Vitalii Stepanov took the fifth place among six leading ones at the second round of the All-Ukrainian Student Contest in English Translation (Philology Institute of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University).

The Department of Germanic philology and the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation were united under common name THE DEPARTMENT OF GERMANIC PHILOLOGY.

2015

Accreditation was held at the Department. Receiving Master’s Degree takes two years.

April 2015

O.V. Brovkina defended Ph.D. thesis (10.02.04 − Germanic Languages) and was awarded the degree of Ph.D. in Philology.

December 2014

Professor S. O. Shvachko, Associate Professor I. K. Kobyakova, Associate Professor O. A. Shumenko, Associate Professor G. V. Chulanova, Lecturer O. V. Nazarenko were winners of Global Іnternatіonal Scіentіfіc Analytіcal Project (London, Great Britain). They were awarded certificates and as constant participants of the project led Sumy State University to the 1st place among universities-participants according to common ranking.

Translation Training and Resource Center extended its authorities and became Translation Training and Resource Center "LinguoStar".

June 2014

Vitalii Dorda defended his Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Philology Iryna Kobyakova.

O. V. Popova defended her Ph.D. thesis and was awarded the degree of Ph.D. in Philology.

2014

Professor S. O. Shvachko, Associate Professor I. K. Kobyakova, Associate Professor O. A. Shumenko became members of Ukrainian Association of Cognitive Linguistics and Poetics.

November 2013

Department received a certificate for training students for the international language tests (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC) and held accreditation at Kyiv Educational and Examining Center.

N. S. Reva and A. V. Prokopenko defended Ph.D. theses (10.02.04 − Germanic Languages) and were awarded the degree of Ph.D. in Philology.

Foundation of students’ clubs: Research Office, Career Office, Travel Office on the basis of Translation Training and Resource Center.

O. O. Zhulavska, H. V. Chulanova, O. I. Yehorova, O. A. Shumenko, D. V. Movchan defended Ph.D. theses (10.02.04 − Germanic Languages) and were awarded the degree of Ph.D. in Philology.

Confucius Centre was opened with support of the Confucius Institute of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

2010

First graduation of Specialists, speciality "Translation". Accreditation was held at the Department.

2010

Ukrainian Students’ Scientific Conference "Translation Innovations" was established.

2009

Master's degree programme was opened at the Department.

May 2008

The Department of Translation was renamed as the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation.

2008

Yuliia Kosenko defended her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Svitlana Shvachko.

2007

Division of the department into two corresponding departments: the Department of Germanic Philology; the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation. Licensing of the Department for receiving the Master's degree. Doctor of Philology, Prof. Svitlana Shvachko became the head of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation.The head of the Department of Germanic Philology became Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Philology Iryna Kobyakova.

September 2006

 

Translation Training and Resource Center was created at the Department.

Tetiana Anokhina defended her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Yurii Zatsnyi.

2003

Ganna Kozlovska, Iryna Sokolova defended their Ph.D. theses under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Svitlana Shvachko.

2001

Svitlana Podolkova and Olena Medvid defended their Ph.D. theses under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Svitlana Shvachko.

2000

First graduation of Specialists, speciality "Translation".

Accreditation of the speciality 7.03.05.07.

 

1999

The first International Scientific and Practical Conference ″Methodological Problems of Modern Theory of Translation ″ was held.

First graduation of Bachelors, speciality "Translation" (6.03.05.07.).

Svitlava Baranova defended her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Svitlana Shvachko.

1996

Iryna Kobyakova defended her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Doctor of Philology, Professor Vyacheslav Karaban. Svitlana Zhuravlova defended her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Doctor of Philology Svitlana Shvachko.
