Kateryna Kolodiazhna (a SumDU Philology student) under the guidance of Oksana Brovkina (a senior lecturer at the Department of Germanic Philology) took the 2nd place at the All-Ukrainian Vitalii Keis Contest of Shakespeare Studies for Young Researchers.

The contest is an annual to popularize the legacy of William Shakespeare, to identify talented youth and to stimulate students' research and creative activity. The event is traditionally organized at Zaporizhzhia National University. This year, the competition brought together over 60 participants from 20 higher education institutions of Ukraine.

According to Kateryna Kolodiazhna, preparing her creative project, she seemed to look behind the scenes of her own consciousness:

– Step by step, a radically different application of my translation and writing skills helped me to build my own style and view of literary translation! A competition like this is a huge springboard for realization of any creative or research ideas. So, I advise everyone to join it.

The student created a deck of tarot cards. Each arcana corresponded to a particular work of William Shakespeare. The cards were filled with her own translations of Shakespeare's works.

Other three students (Aliona Nikolenko, Diana Pererva, Karyna Chornobuk) reached the competition final. The research projects of our students were highly appreciated by the jury.

The Department of Germanic Philology congratulates Kateryna Kolodiazhna on her well-deserved victory and wishes her and all participants to proceed further!
