This autumn, the Department of Germanic Philology joined the international grant project Ukraine Digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The project aim is to support Ukrainian lecturers and students in times of the crisis we are all experiencing.

The project on academic process digitalization is implemented in close cooperation with academic staff of the partner University of Duisburg-Essen. Within the project, an online meeting with Dr. Iris Bäcker was held on 17 October 2022. Hosted by Olesia Yehorova, the meeting was attended by our future translation students who have courses "Linguistic and Cultural Studies (German-Speaking Countries)" and "Practical Course of German".

Dr. Iris Bäcker specializes in Slavic and German studies, literary translation, communication and didactics. Moreover, she had devoted more than 20 years of her life to working as a DAAD-lecturer. So, the prime meeting focus was tasks, competences and programs offered by DAAD. The students expressed their interest in documents and general requirements for participation in DAAD scholarships. All latest information about peculiarities of staying and studying in Germany, current support proposals for Ukrainians are found on the portal https://www.daad-ukraine.org.

"Such events are important for students because international academic experience is a great step in one's personal and professional development", - shared sophomore Kyrylo Harkavyi his thoughts.

In the atmosphere of open and positive dialogue, the students learned about the German education and opportunities for certified specialists. Also, they discussed the most famous German stereotypes.
