On 30 August 2023, a planned meeting of the SumDU Academic Board took place. The key issue was the election of department heads.

"Last year we worked productively. I hope this year we will work even more actively, with the understanding that the university must ensure its contribution on the intellectual front and be worthy of our state, our people and our Armed Forces," said Anatolii Vasyliev (head of the SumDU Academic Board).

According to the secret voting results, Svitlana Baranova was promoted to the head of the Department of Germanic Philology.
