On 24 October, the NTSA IFSK SumDU held an online lecture for first-year students.

Participants acquired new knowledge about academic plagiarism and its varieties in research papers. The StrikePlagiarism system was introduced for checking texts on uniqueness and references. Similarity coefficients and their limits were analyzed.

Journal specialization and indexation were observed as well. It was reported how to select a good specializaed journal and check its authenification in the MON Register. Top priority of publishing in Scopus, Web of Science and Index Copernicus journals was also focused on.

Also, principles of source selection were discussed. The Scopus tutorial was made for such a purpose.

The conference "First Step into Science" was represented as well.

The obtained information will be useful for future students' scientific activities.
