On 2 June 2023, the final stage of the XVII All-Ukrainian Student Translation Contest "Artistic Word in World Culture" took place at the Volodymyr Dal East Ukrainian National University.

Despite air raid alarms, 137 students from different parts of Ukraine participated in the competition. The participants competed in six translation categories.

SumDU Philology students also revealed their translation skills. For their efforts, they were awarded in the following categories:

"Translation of a poetic work from English into Ukrainian" – 1st place: Alina Serdiuk, 4th year; 2nd place: Hlafira Koval, 4th year.

"Translation of a poetic work from German into Ukrainian" – 1st place: Alyona Nikolenko, 3rd year; 2nd place: Anzhelika  Kalchenko, 2nd year.

Anzhelika Kalchenko shared her impressions:

"Literary translation is my aspiration. There are countless ways to convey the beauty and poetic essence of the author's words from one language into another, without losing the profound meaning of the writer. It may seem like a challenging task, but the satisfaction from the result is even greater. I would like to thank the Volodymyr Dal University for the opportunity to participate in the competition".
