The Department of Germanic Philology joined the international grant project "Ukraine Digital: Ensuring Academic Success in Times of Crisis". It is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The main aim of this project is to create lasting connections between German and Ukrainian higher education institutions. The program goal is digitization of German and Ukrainian universities with the prospect of developing joint virtual courses. The project is implemented in close cooperation with lecturers from the partner University of Duisburg-Essen.

First-year philologists participated in the project within the discipline "Basics of Speech Communication Theory" (taught by Iryna Ushchapovska). Future German teachers, Master's students of the University of Duisburg-Essen became partners in the project from the German side. The lecturer is Ina Lamers who specializes in teaching German as a foreign language.

The project idea was to establish communication in a cross-cultural and multilingual context. The expected result is joint mini-projects in the form of polylingual (German-English-Ukrainian) works. The first meeting was held online on 5 November 2022. Students got to know each other, presented their universities and shared experience of foreign language study. Further cooperation took place in four mini-groups consisting of Ukrainian and German students.

The final meeting was held on 19 November. Here, joint projects were presented. Because of blackouts, not all of our students were able to attend. However, their group mates and German colleagues could adequately present the cooperation results. Thus, we received four unique German-English-Ukrainian poems.
