There was the long-awaited final of the translation competition "Lviv European", which united only 150 finalists from more than 3000 participants, including students of the Department of Germanic Philology Alina Liuta and Anastasiia Dorohokuplia.

Our students were among the 150 finalists in the category "Universities: English". We asked the girls about their competition experience this year: what new, unusual, and interesting happened on their way?

Anastasia Dorohokuplia: "I am glad to have received this experience, even if the competition was online. Usually, the final round takes place in Lviv, where all participants gather and can communicate, listen to speeches of famous Ukrainian translators, and feel the spirit of the "tribe", which is always talked about by the organisers. Among the competition partners is the Ukrainian translation conference "UTICamp", which the winners can attend. I hope next year I will be lucky to participate there as well. Therefore, I advise both students and schoolchildren not to be afraid and participate in such events. As the contest organisers from the "Linguistic Center" say: "Yes, you can!"

Alina Liuta: "The experience turned out to be wonderful because from the beginning I translated texts from both German and English and I made it to the final in both nominations!!! This competition was a great opportunity to test my translation skills. And even remotely, I managed to feel the unity of the "tribe". We had the opportunity to listen to the prominent Viktor Morozov, who bestowed the Ukrainians a series of books about Harry Potter in their native language, and Kateryna and Anatolii Pityk engaged in "creative translation" (translation of books, films, comics, and board games). Such people inspire me for new achievements because they honestly talk about their path in the profession. I would be happy to take part in next year's competition and to see my colleagues face to face."
