Hello! My name is Oleksandra. I am a Philology student of Sumy State University.

I think Mitacs gives proactive students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills, talents and abilities, and gain practical experience in the areas they are interested in. It is important to enjoy the work you choose. Interest in unresolved issues, sometimes narrow topics, encourages you to research and find solutions.

I love studying translation. Over time, I realized that I needed to look for ways to improve myself in my chosen specialty, so in my third year I chose the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.

While working on the project, I received positive impressions both from studying a completely new field of translation for me and from working in a highly motivated team with the best professor in the business. I worked with a large amount of information and learned a lot more. In general, our project is about the challenges faced by immigrants and those who want to help on the path of adaptation, communication and support for those who have found Canada as a new home.

The country impresses with its multiculturalism and tolerance. It is impossible to describe it in one word. It is multicolored. Sometimes unhurried, sometimes breathtaking. Completely unfamiliar and at the same time homey and cozy. I sincerely fell in love with my chosen province: from the sudden cool rains to the warm breeze of the Atlantic Ocean, the unique Acadian way of life and the culture of this people.

The time spent with the team is the most memorable. Every day we spent together was full of discoveries and sincere delight.

Secondly, the celebration of Canada Day deserves attention. Despite the incredible heat, millions of people from all over the world, united by this country, come together. On this day, you can truly experience its diversity.

Finally, you get to meet students from different countries and travel together.

My advice would be simple - do not hesitate to choose a project. Once you decide, you will definitely get a lot of impressions and discoveries!

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program is an international initiative for international students from around the world to do research internships in Canada. The internship is open to Ukrainians studying in the 3rd or 4th year of a full-time bachelor's degree program. Each year, from May to September, the selected participants undergo a 12-week research internship under the supervision of Canadian university professors in various academic disciplines: from engineering, technology and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

From the list of applied research projects compiled by Canadian university professors, you choose from 3 to 7 projects to work on.

Participation in the program is free!
