On May 17, #SumDU_translators met with the alumni of the Department of Germanic Philology  Tetiana Mayboroda and Svitlana Mikhno.

Tetiana currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer and Vice director of BiEM Sumy State University to coordinate collaboration with foreign institutions and work with international students; also, she is a Ph.D. in Economics and has extensive experience in implementing educational projects in Africa. Mrs. Tetiana emphasizes that it was her curiosity and desire to move forward, not to stop there in her achievements that pushed her to immerse herself in the development of exchange programs for teachers and students, participation in exhibitions, and training seminars in African countries. Our guest is convinced that she could not have thought that she would find her calling in such a field, which was still little studied at the time. The position presented the alumnus with valuable experience and friends-diplomats from all around the world.
Mrs. Tetiana, based on her own experience, claims with confidence that machine translation will not replace the translator as a specialist, on whom depends, first of all, the success of negotiations. After all, it takes a human's competence to cope with the subtleties of translation and communication, cultural peculiarities,
Svitlana is currently a Ph.D. in Pedagogy, a Senior Lecturer at the Foreign Languages Department, and the Deputy Head of the postgraduate and doctoral department of SumDU. Mrs. Svitlana acquainted students with career prospects in the research field, talked about the opportunities for admission to a postgraduate course and further to doctoral candidacy at SumDU and the benefits and bonuses that an academic degree gives for professional development.
Finally, the alumni presented the students with a textbook "Problems of Simultaneous Translation", to the writing of which they joined as students. They wished students to find their calling and confirmed that the acquired knowledge would undoubtedly be applied in practice because graduates of the specialty "Philology" have a wide choice for further self-realization. Translation, philological and scientific activities provide a wide range of opportunities.
