On the occasion of holding the X All-Ukrainian students’ scientific conference "Translation Innovations", on March 20-21th, the Department of Germanic Philology and experts from the employers board in specialization "Translation" have created a professional portrait of specialists, who are translators by vocation. Our investigation was held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the specialty "Philology" ("Translation") of SumDU.
The Department of Germanic Philology of SumDU had prepared approximately 4000 qualified degreed specialists and created the translational community of Slobozhanshchina. The transnational group in this region is represented by 3 professional groups - freelancers, the office of translators, and staff translators, for whom an online quiz about each of the market sectors was made.

The profession of a translator has many benefits such as an ability for self-fulfillment in any field (oral or consecutive translation, written translation, simultaneous translation, translation of films, books, magazines, etc). The specialists, who have foreign language knowledge, are gladly employed in journalistic, touristic groups, management spheres. They have an opportunity to communicate with various people and study the cultures of different countries. The success of all negotiations depends on the translator's competencies, and so his/her own career growth.   For 25 years already SumDU graduates specialists with the degrees "Translator, lecturer of two foreign languages".
We've polled our graduates. 205 individuals have been involved. On the key question "Do you work as a translator?" 53% answered POSITIVELY, and 47% - NEGATIVELY.  It is interesting, that 19% of non-translators are working as lecturers of translation and foreign language, 18% hasn't found themselves within this profession, but the language knowledge was crucial in getting hired.   The Office of translation is not the only place for graduates to work there. Specialists can choose almost every field of activity: the creation of English versions of the web-sites, work in mass media, accompany politicians, businessmen abroad, implement tour-manager duties.
Answering the question about their future the third part of respondents (31%) has chosen the answer "translator in a company", 21% "would rather move abroad", 10% "further research activity". Answering the question "How do you evaluate the level of acquirement of the transnational educational program out of 12?" in average the respondents answered 10.
