In order to improve knowledge and skills according to recommendations of stakeholders and employers, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology constantly attend courses, seminars or workshops.

Olha Shumenko (a department associate professor) received a certificate from Burleigh College, London. The acquired knowledge will help to cooperate even better with students.

Academic mobility is an extraordinary opportunity that gives students a unique chance to learn new subjects and culture, to improve language and social skills. Participation in such programs expands horizons and creates unforgettable memories.

Yana Kozel talks about her experience of studying abroad:

– This year, I decided to participate in the Erasmus+ academic mobility program at the Riga Technical University (Latvia). At first, there were worries about the difficulty of studying in a new country and the process of submitting documents. However, after a few weeks, I was convinced that my decision to apply for this program was the right one.

This year, I took part in the Erasmus+ program. Spent the spring semester in the ancient town of Bamberg (Germany) studying at the Otto-Friedrich University.

Participating in one of the Erasmus+ programs is one of the most exciting things in my life. There was everything: long-awaited offline learning, active student life, and even traveling. For the first time since COVID-19 shook the world, I was able to "feel like a student".

While studying at the Otto-Friedrich University, I not only improved my knowledge of a foreign language - both English and German - but also established intercultural ties, and in general, gained valuable experience of life abroad. The scholarship covered all my living expenses. I got a dormitory room and had an opportunity to try many different dishes of German cuisine.

Translation students received valuable practical experience from informal education. Virtually, they joined "DG Translation" within the course "Translation Practice from the English Language" (teachers Olena Nazarenko, Olena Yemelianova, Alla Krasulia) and saw how translators work in the European Commission.

On 22 November 2023, the Travel Office under the guidance of Olena Nazarenko, organized an engaging online event.

Iryne Kuts, a Philology graduate, is currently working as a quality control officer in a British company in Newport. She shared her work experience with interested guests and SumDU student. The event was attended by their curator Antonina Prokopenko and instructors Iryne Kobyakova and Olena Ovsianko.
