On 3 July 2024, a solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas to the 2024 Bachelor graduates took place at the SumDU IFSC Faculty. This year, 51 philology graduates received Bachelor degrees.

Olena Sushkova (dean of the IFSK Faculty) read out the order to expel former students. She noted the faculty does not say goodbye to them, because a Bachelor's degree is only the first step on a professional path. The faculty is waiting for the graduates to study at the Master's and PhD level. Graduates are regarded as future industry workers, employers, guests and friends of the faculty.

On 21-22 May 2024, the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Science and Education: The Latest Socio-Cultural Projection" was held at the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.

On 25 June 2024, the Department of Germanic Philology held a meeting of the Approval Board in the specialty 035 "Philology". The agenda included the pre-defense of the dissertation research by the postgraduate student L.O. Molhamova. The thesis topic us "The Concept of DEATH in the English Discourse: The Linguistic-Synergistic Aspect".

In February-May 2024, Iryna Ushchapovska (PhD in Philology, associate professor, senior lecturer at the Department of Germanic Philology) conducted a series of lectures and workshops on the course "The Language of Sustainable Brands" with fourth-year linguists.


Sustainability is a balance between the economy, people and the environment. In order to find common ground between economics and linguistics, it is necessary to find specific points of contact for synergy. It can be brands and brand language, as "great brands do not belong to one language - they are part of a new global language.

Philology students of the fourth year presented the results of their latest research project "Ukrainians in the German-speaking Countries" within the discipline "Practical Course of the German language". The project was organized under the leadership of senior lecturer Anna Zinchenko. It aimed at investigating modern Ukrainian diaspora in such countries as Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.

During January-May 2024, Oleksandra Kubatko (PhD in Economics, associate professor, senior lecturer at the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration of Sumy State University) conducted lectures and practical classes on the discipline "EU Policies for Green Economy" for third-year foreign students majoring in Economics and Business.

The Department of Germanic Philology held the defense of Master's and Bachelor's theses. Masters presented results of their research work, which will become a basis for development of future translation diploma projects. Bachelors publicly discussed their methodological works based on results of their teaching practice in English and German.

Alla Krasulia (a senior lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology) participated in the 18th JTELSS24 Summer School of the European Association of Technology Enhanced Learning. The event was held in the city of Gabicce Mare, Italy, on 11-19 May 2024. It was supported by the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Bologna and the International Association of University Libraries.

In late May, the Department of Germanic Philology was visited by ninth-graders of Sumy schools. The visit began with a short excursion, during which the pupils got acquainted with the conditions of study of future philologists and translators. Special attention was paid to the language rooms with specialized equipment for translators and interpreters.

Organized by the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, the conference brought together scholars from around the world. The event was held in a mixed format on 1 June 2024. It was attended by representatives of 12 countries and 20 cities of Ukraine.

At the conference opening, the participants were greeted by Vasyl KARPUSHA, Anatolii CHORNOUS, Olena SUSHKOVA, and Julie KASPER.
