The IQTS meets the standards of the International Education Strategy, providing thorough and qualified training for British and Ukrainian teachers. It reviews available ways and methods to maintain and improve the quality of educational services in extreme conditions. Candidates for the iQTS have an opportunity to study locally (at their place of residence or work) without visiting England.

The Jean Monnet Module “Fostering EU practices of education for sustainable development through the brand language: interdisciplinary studies” (ESDbrandEU) 101085708-ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH

The Jean Monnet Module "Fostering EU practices of education for sustainable development through the brand language: interdisciplinary studies" got started at Sumy State University on 1 November 2022. This module is headed by Iryna Ushchapovska (PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Senior Lecture of the Department of Germanic Philology). The responsible teachers are Oleksandra Kubatko (PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Senior Lecture of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration) and Halyna Chulanova (PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology).

The ESDbrandEU Jean Monnet Module project aims at ensuring the promotion of European Union studies in the field of education for sustainable development (ESD) at higher educational institutions. It will stimulate both university teachers and students in studying and reflecting on the EU practices of sustainable development. This module will be taught to Bachelor and Master students, university teachers, local business representatives (as part of upgrade qualification and self-improvement training) and all interested in the topic. It will enable students and teachers of different specialties to work together in cross-section multidisciplinary groups and thus benefit from the synergy of cooperation as well as to gain new ideas on the topic.

The concept of sustainability comes from the tradition of referring it to economic development that almost totally overlooks other spheres of life (in particular, linguistics). In Ukraine, education for sustainable development is concentrated mostly on economic issues. As European practices prove, there are ways of transferring the procedures of sustainability to the language field and combining economic, environmental, cultural and linguistic competencies. Thus, educational sustainability is holistically related to economic, environmental, linguistic and cultural sustainability.

To find the bridge between economics and linguistics, specific touchpoints should be found for the synergy of ESD. These can be brands and brand language. Current approaches to the brand study reveal its communicative essence and indicate the possibility of linguistic analysis. In the brand communication paradigm, the brand acts as a source of information about the company or its products (sender). This transmits this information to the consumer (receiver) through the brand language – a common system of symbols or code. From an interdisciplinary perspective, sustainable brands can become the ambassadors of sustainability for ESD.

The ESDbrandEU Module aims to develop four main modules, and e-learning platform for the promotion of EU studies related to SD. For applying multidisciplinary research of this ESDbrandEU Module, we build a team of academicians who are representatives of two SumDU departments: the Department of Germanic Philology and the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration.

The ESDbrandEU Module’s main idea is to develop training courses and an e-learning system to foster the best EU practices of ESD through working with several target groups (students of economic and philological specialties). They are intellectual carriers and developers of SD. Combining students of different specialties can provide value-added for both groups.

It is expected to have a wide potential impact during the project life on students of the Sumy region, local authorities, journalists, NGOs representatives, local entrepreneurs (through workshops for creating sustainable brand identity), teachers and the public (through advertisements, awareness, publications and open e-learning courses).
