Students of the specialty "Translation" excelled in the competition of the Canadian organization O. W. L. Open World Learning
Marharyta Polupan and Kseniya Chorna, second year students of the specialty "Translation" were involved in the competition "Outstanding Canadian Ukrainians," which was held on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the first Ukrainian settlement in Canada with the support of the Canadian educational public organization O. W. L. Open World Learning, and were awarded certificates of participants.
As enthusiastically notes Marharyta: "I really liked the aim of the project itself and immediately decided to try it out." The subject of my research was the outstanding Canadian of Ukrainian descent – Myhal Ivanna Hryhoryvna, a talented opera singer. Every educated Ukrainian knows the reasons for a large number of immigrants to Canada from Ukraine: the crisis, unemployment, looking for better life, or the best places in the sun. Ivanna Myhal together with her family was no exception. Elementary music education Ivanka got at Fort William, later continued her studies at the Royal Conservatory of music in Toronto. It is impossible not to note that at 20 years Ivanna had already performed with the famous Ensemble "The Leslie Bell Singers”, and after 7 years, toured in different cities, such as Miami, Detroit, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and others.
Ivanna had a good command of foreign languages, but never forgot about her native, Ukrainian. Each concert ended with a Ukrainian folk or classical song. For us, compatriots, her voice sounds like a farewell song that can be heard in the harmonious chirping of the Nightingale.
One of the mandatory tasks of the contest was to shoot a short documentary video about the selected person. The winners will get the opportunity to visit Canada in the summer to see the country and to improve their English proficiency.
